If I root it using the instructions provided in this thread, will I be able to install Android Jelly Bean and use Google Play? Will it interfere with some of the tablet's functions?
No question is stupid, stupid is only the one who does not ask the questions

If you are a complete novice with android and rooting i do not suggest you do buy N710 as its very difficult to make the device run as you wish, you will be very frustrated with this device, just read the root instructions once and you will see what i mean.

However if you like to learn things the hard way and have tons of patience N710 is a good device for that

I got stuck in the same step #7. Tatubias, you gave advice for typing "root" "remount". Could you be more specific, where, when to type it?

happens the same to me, when i do step 4 the cmd starts to show error, and it never ends, so i have to close it down and reopen to make step 5 (adb reboot), then, when i do step 6 it shows $, and if i do step 7 it says "operation not permitted".

i'm stuck here... and i really need root, because the gps is killing me to make it work with sygic or gmaps... still don't know why, hope root helps...

Just ignore the error messages in terminal window and continue to next step.

Let the error messages roll and go to next step on your device.

After this step, the computer command-line window there will be a lot of error, then, click on the N710 recover data.
