It cant be done, whiout a proper u-boot source and kernel source for our boards (npm701 basic, npm702 paladin) it just cant be done, i was never able to compile pinkflozd kernel with the included toolchain because of missing shared libs, i can fix that by compiling them but...
And its impossible to compile the kernel with ingenic mipsel toolchain, because of assembler error (pinkflozd kernel seem to be using mips, not mipsel).
More importanly, i cant compile u-boot with pinkflozd toolchain either because of the same thing, and since its the u-boot who passes the root arguments to kernel we only going to be ever able to run linux using a u-boot source for running linux, the ingenic dev site incluides the u-boot source, but for the dev board, not our tablets, as souch, it will run, but it does not detect the correct amount of ram, but the main problem is i cant compile the u-boot with the same toolchain that the android kernels are compiled, so a linux mipsel u-boot and android mips kernels gives a magic error.
And the linux kernel incluided in the ingenic dev site is for the dev board, not the tablets, is missing everything.
ill try to get another toolchain and try again. Still Ingenic is rampaging deleting files and sources everywhere, instead of helping they do that, and that pisses me off, i think we should move on and never buy anything from ingenic again.

1) I managed the U-Boot to detect up to 512MB of ram.
2)Finally found out where u-boot bootargs where getting setted on source code, now i can change the kernel parameters at will, and that incluide root dir.
3) The 3.0.23 kernel detects the external SD perfectly, so i edited u-boot to pass the root as the first partition of the external sd.
and.....

UPDATE:
ok now im sure that the problem is memory configuration at u-boot, im trying to set the proper configuration at the header in the u-boot source using the PDF for the memory chip but no luck so far.
I used directly the alezzandro debian image copied directly to a ext2 partition on a sd card, it booted, loaded X11 and SLIM, and even showed up a terminal on serial asking for user/pass(i added a getty on inittab), but it was very unstable and i managed that only once, after that no luck to getting to that point.

hi..
dunno if this applies but it looks similar to me.
saw no mention of being able to read/modify the boot image ramdisk after splitting the image.
did you try this (from HOWTO: Unpack, Edit, and Re-Pack Boot Images - Android Wiki)
In order to see the contents of the ramdisk, you need to un-gzip it and then un-cpio it. You could use a command like this (ideally after creating a new directory and cd'ing into it):Code:gunzip -c ../your-ramdisk-file | cpio -i
That will place all of the files from the ramdisk in your working directory. You can now edit them.
In order to re-create the ramdisk, you need to re-cpio them and re-gzip those files, with a command like the following (remember, cpio will include everything in the current working directory, so you probably want to remove any other cruft you might have in there):worked on MTD and NAND devices of mine.Code:find . | cpio -o -H newc | gzip > ../newramdisk.cpio.gz
I'm interested in doing a similar thing as you to my Polaroid tab but it might be easier since mine's arm/allwinner. hopefully I'm not cluttering your thread.

Xburst support for Linux, Ben nanonote references
I have been reading this thread with interest. Although I don't have an Xburst tablet, I do have 2 other Xburst devices, a Ben NanoNote, and an IPPea.
Ben NanoNote - Qi-Hardware
iPPea TV | iPPea Inc
The IPPea hasn't any Linux support, however the NanoNote has full bootloader, kernel, and tool chain support, including documentation.
Updating Ben NanoNote software - Qi-Hardware
Updating Ben NanoNote software - Qi-Hardware
Bootloader - Qi-Hardware
I occurs to me this might be a good place to get some of the missing information.
In particular I was wondering if the uBoot, which currently defaults to Nand but boots from SDcard on a keypress, could be changed to default to SDcard. Then if this version could be flashed to the anotherr Xburst device, and a bootable SD inserted.
The NanoNote site has links for various downloadable bootable SD cards.
Any comments? I do have a Ben NanoNote and an IPPEA if I can help out.

I was thinking about flashing with the linux for GCW Zero... the interesting is that GCW Zero sources will provide a excelent kernel.
http://boards.dingoonity.org/gcw-dev...ash-to-device/
The main problem for paladin and basic is the bootloader and ram configuration.
