Is there an install / flash guide somewhere.
I just received my Paladin and am pretty unhappy with the incomplete app market. My advanced with 4.0 Beta is better...but they don't make it anymore!
To the question though...is there a upgrade/reflash guide somewhere to refer to to put this version on one?

You are totally correct. If anyone wants to check out our honestly put the Chinese Ainol web site through Google translate and you will see for yourself that the 4.03 that is currently floating around is not the official, approved version from Ainol. You put your tablet in danger not using the official, approved version.

Most of the wifi problems are do to the router. If your router is any more then about 2 years old it needs to be replaced, as older routers, while they may work with computers, are not up to communicating with the new tablets and cell phones reliabbly. The new dual band routers work best. The Netgear dual band line up in particular seems to work fine. The Linkysys line up seems to be a problem. One thing you can try is taking your security off of your router. That has helped some. If it were me, I would stay away from rouge, non official firmware, as malware is beginning to be a problem in Android.
