Easy Install Android Market for Novo 7 Elf on 4.03 ICS

I have used the resources on this forum to install the Android Market (now Play Store) on the Novo 7 Elf.
It is a puzzle with pieces all over the forum.

I created a package and script that does everything for you.

For the pre March 2012 firmware use this version:
marketinstaller.exe ~32Mb
For the March 2012 Firmware use this version:
marketinstaller20120315.exe ~21Mb

The March 2012 firmware has a build version 20120302.***
You will find the build number in Settings -> About -> Build Number.

If in doubt, just use the latest version. It will work on the earlier firmware as well, but will not remove all the Chinese apps and will not install Google Mail (you can add this using the Market yourself)

I have run this script on 600+ Elf tablets, so I'm pretty sure it works, but you use it on your own risk.

I have broken the script in 2 parts.
The first will install the latest Market (Play Store) and related Google apps.
The second (Optional part) will remove the Chinese applications from your tablet.

Requirements
------------

Your tablet to have the following
* debug mode must be enabled.
* must be rooted (Novo 7 comes rooted from the factory)
* must have the Android USB drivers installed
* Windows PC with USB

You do not need the install JDK or the Android Development enviroment.


Install Procedure
-----------------
1. Extract the contents of the archive to a folder of your choice by running
the exe file.

2. If you do not have the Android USB drivers installed, you can also install the driver
by installing the PnaNet application
(see http://junefabrics.com/android/)

3. Connect your Novo 7 Elf to the PC using the USB cable and make sure it is
switched on and unloacked and the you see the following 2 messages on your
tablet: "USB connected" and "USB Debug connected"

4. Now run the Install.bat
When it complete the tablet will reboot and the Market and other Google apps
will be installed.

5. (Optional) If you would like to remove the Chineese applications from your
tablet, you can run Cleanup.bat to do that.
It will not remove the shortcuts from your Home screen.
You can delete these shortcuts manually.


Which Apps are affected?
------------------------
The following apps are added (InstallMarket.bat):
* Latest version of Play Store (new name for Android Marktet)
* Google Books
* Google Voice
* Google Maps
* Google+
* Google Reader
* Google Talk
* YouTube
* Dolphin Browser (English version)

The following apps are removed (only when you optionally run Cleanup.bat)
* QQ
* The Last Defender HD
* UC浏览器 (UC Web)
* 机锋市场 (GFanMobile)
* 欧朋浏览器 (Opera CN version)
* 海豚浏览器 HD (Dolphin Browser HD CN version)
* 百度输入法PAD版 (Pad)
* 谷歌拼音输入法 (CN input keyboard)
* 酷我音乐HD (Kuwo player HD)

What are the settings?
----------------------
Running this script will automaticaly set the tablet to English.
When you do a factory reset these will be you default values after the reset.
These settings can be changed in the settings of the device after the update.
region=US
language=en
country=UK
timezone=Europe/London

Known issues
------------
In some instances if you are not running this script on a fresh tablet, you get
an error that android.process.acore has stopped. The problem is with a
contacts database that is in an old format.
To fix - Do a facotry reset (Settings -> Backup & Reset -> Factory Reset)
If the reset does not work you will have to reflash your tablet and apply the
script again. (Official ICS 4.0.3 firmware for Novo 7 Elf)

I assume you are using the latest firmware released this past week. It sets the file system as read only.
I updated the post with an updated script for that firmware that work around the read only file system.

Just upgrade to the latest firmware. It changed the rocker switch to do the volume. Love it

Download the new firmware 8.3.2012 Official ICS 4.0.3 update released just a 2 hours ago. ~300Mb

You will need the LiveSuite application which is included in the previous firmware
Official ICS 4.0.3 firmware for Novo 7 Elf ~300Mb
or from this download LiveSuiteInstall.exe ~11Mb

Upgrade instructions:

1. Double-click the LiveSuitPack_v1.07.exe file, it will automatically install the driver files. Click “OK” to complete the driver installation.
2. Double-click to open the upgrade tool LiveSuit.exe
3. Click “No” to not choose the user upgrade wizard, and click the “Select Firmware” button (the first button from the left) to select the firmware .img file.
4. Make sure Novo7 is powered off (Turn it on, press the power button for more than 8 seconds to force power off)
5. Press and hold Menu button -> connect USB cable -> directly after press Power button 5 - 6 times and release the Menu button after a second. The LiveSuite application will pop up some windows.
6. Click Yes when asked to format and Yes again. The upgrade starts.
7. When done device will shut down.
Flashing is done.

If you want to run the script after this:
8. Power up the device and run the Install.bat script. It will wait until the device is ready and add the apps and change the config (to English). It needs to reboot before the change will be shown.
9. Optionally run the cleanup.bat to remove the Chinese apps.

Thanks Lousvdw. I am now running build 20120302 and Market is installed. However, when I try to run it, it starts and then abruptly stops sending me back to the Home Screen. Any ideas??

Hi louis,

I upgraded today to the Mar 08 Rom and I followed the instructions you gave on the post..
But it stops with Waiting for Devices and nothing is happening later

But I did check that the USB debugging is enabled and even the USB Mass Storage device option works.

Does it have to do with the USB Drivers, but if yes then even USB mass storage device should not work right..

Please help


EDIT: When I try installing the USB Driver thro INF it says the "INF file you selected doesnt support this installation
