Rockchip uses ARM IP on RK30xx platform

Chinese fabless semiconductor company Rockchip has introduced its enhanced RK30xx platform, targeting Android tablets. The platform is based on a range of ARM Intellectual Property (IP) that Rockchip has licensed, including dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 MP Core processors with up to 1.4 GHz speed, ARM quad-core Mali-400 MP Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) and an ARM Artisan Physical IP Process Optimization Pack (POP) for the Cortex-A9 processor.

The combination of Rockchip's design experience for mobile internet devices and processor and GPU technologies from ARM has resulted in a platform that delivers enhanced 3D gaming experiences and HD video playback, as well as a rich set of memory interfaces and peripherals.

The Rockchip RK30xx platform features full memory support, including DDRIII, DDRII, and LPDDRII, dedicated 2D processor and multi-format video decoder. It also features video encoding for H.264 and vp8, stereoscopic 3D H.264 MVC video codec, embedded HDMI 1.4a supporting 3D display, embedded 60bit per seconds ECC, supporting MLC NAND, E-MMC, i-NAND and booting, and support of dual panel display and dual camera. Samples of the Rockchip RK30xx platform will be available in March.

Looks like Rockchip is well prepared to battle the Allwinner hype that has been on for the last few months. Lets just hope they can keep the price down, something that can be difficult if they pay their license bills, which i doubt Allwinner is doing.

Interesting! It says "based on a range".

Are they actually saying this is dual core, or is this another play on words?

Could they be trying to use the same anology of dual core as Allwinner has?

Give it some time, my guess is 3-6 months before we can buy one. They may have some prototypes at Hong Kong fair in April.

Anyone seen anything to tablets running this SoC? Or any benchmarks?

If the price isn't too much higher than for the A10s, I'd*love one of these in a device with a good 16:9 8" screen. Or a 4:3 9.67" IPS if that is what comes. Assuming the real life performance lives up to the promise, and battery life is decent.
