Tablet for video playback (should have memory card slot)
Hello folks,
DS keeps quiet while traveling if I let him watch videos on iPad. He is just 4 and handling of iPad is pretty rough. So far it survived but I am in no mood to let him use it anymore.
I am looking for a Android tablet that will play majority of the videos without much issues. Most of my videos are encoded in iPod or iPad format using VidCoder so it will be great if it can play those videos and it must have a flash memory card slot so that I can copy videos quickly.
Cost is also a factor. Since his handling is not good, cheaper the better. So that if it cracks the screen or something, I can just throw it away and should not really feel bad about it.
Any recommendations? Open for refurbished ones too.

Most of Chinese tablets can handle any kind of video format and have SD card slot, so you better tell us how much you wish to spend.

Sure they can
Can you give me some recommendation?
Plus, please note that this is a 4 year old we are talking about. iPad is pretty strong hence went through the torture. If I paying ~$100-150, it better be able to handle that stress (i.e. should be sturdy enough), else for me it will be as good as dumping money in garbage.

one thing you would need to be wary of is the OS on the device some newer Android OS's really dont give 100% support for hardware playback and this can cause issues especially with HD playback.
But you should be 99% safe.
You sound like you were in my position, I bought my son a 7" device, a 10" is a little to big for him to handle over long periods of time, and a 7" is perfect (my son is 8).
I found a allwinner a10 1.2ghz with camera and 4gb, bought it with a 16gb sdcard for about 20$ and the tablet was around 90$, this was back in April, the tablet has had multiple drops and I have had to open it to re-attach the screen ribbon (easy task), but the tablet has survived very very well, if it was a Apple ipad, ipod it would have easily been history by now.
Also if your wanting to know were I got it from I can post that info.if you find any post helpful, remember to hit thanks to that poster.......

@yellowperil,
Can you give me link to the page where you bought it? I searched quickly but the page that I came across said, its in pre-order !! Its pretty good deal for $90 and honestly, he is not going to do anything but watch Nemo and Cars all the way through travel. iPad has been dropped tons of times but we have carpet flooring, plus it has a rubber sleeve so it survived.
What I am more wary about Chinese tablets is, not the software but the quality of hardware and battery. My Chinese colleague bought me a photodisk as I was planning to go to Africa. He bought it for half of the price I got in the US but so was the quality. The battery would not last copying 2GB memory card and it was super frustrating. I trashed the whole thing in Zambia.
In the same way, I do not want to buy a tablet because its cheap and then DS drops it, finally me to see a cracked screen. This will infuriate me like hell.

Well battery life aint gonna be anywhere near an ipad, possibly if your lucky around 40-50% of that.
I got mine from McBub, and they dont sell the model I have anymore
its actually pretty nice one as well.
As for getting another one, make sure that its shipped with ics, mine wasn't and took quite a bit of effort to get a link from them to get the download.
but other than that fast delivery and very well boxed and protected.
Like me you more than likely not gonna mess around with roms with the 7", just get the sdcard and the apps on it.
If you get the plastic shell ones you dont really have to worry about the quality as you more than liekyl will find out its literally 1 motherboard with 3 ribbons from it, 1 to the camers, 1 to the display and 1 for the touch screen and 2 sets of cables, 1 for the speaker and 1 to the battery. They are very very simple devices with virtually everything on 1 motherboard.
Now I would just go for the allwinner a10 1.2ghz 4gb with camera (does skype very well), I couldnt state any of the other tablets as I dont have personel experience of them.
McBub: Low-Priced 7 Inch I 7C , USD 109.99, 7 Inch I 7C Android 4.0 Tablet PC AllWinner A10 CPU 1.2GHz GPU: Mali 400 Ultra-thin WIFI HDMI Black&Silver (CN110218)
thats the one I got, I made sure it was all plastic.
you may see the same specs promising 1.5ghz, but this is very incorrect information, more than likely you will discover like me its really 1ghz maybe 1.2ghz, but anything above that and the system is flaky as hell....
You can now get some as low as 70$, but like most sites, even if its IN stock they may take up to 5 days before it ships, this is usual behavior.if you find any post helpful, remember to hit thanks to that poster.......
