I believe that the first thing to consider when getting a new tablet is the size. Tablet sizes range from 7 inch to over 10 inch. The 7 inch is the size of the Kindle fire while the 10 inch is bigger, more like the Ipad.

Your choice of size will be dependant on the main use of the devise, that is, when and how. 7 inch is very portable and easily slipped into your normal handbag but the bigger ones offer more viewing area but are cumbersome to carry around. Give us your preference and we may be better able to help you.

Best place to buy? Probably Merrimobiles ...although none of the direct sources are without fault. Another big source that is large and looks to be making an impact by providing a presence here in the states is McBub. I had an issue with them, and they finally came about to help satisfactorily.

Which tab? Teclast; Onda; SmartQ; Cube; Window ...and a few others. Those are, in my view ...some of the best.

I have the Teclast A10t. Excellent tab, but now we have the RK3066 chipset (real dual core) and the TI OMAP processors (also dual core).

I am liking what SmartQ is doing with a number of their tabs, namely using memory designed for these tabs ...LPDDR2. Tests show that memory to give longer battery usage. Right now I just do not like what they are doing with thier 9.7" ...design-wise.

Now all I am waiting for is a 9.7" A10t sized tab (maybe smaller) with real dual core and the better memory. Than I will be there.

    I wish you well.

Most tablets Chinese tablets will do all the points you listed, if you have no experience with Android tablets then maybe better sak you self how much you want to spend on it.

You can get a 7-inch tablet for under 90 USD, but this means poor screen, poor built quality and maybe no support from manufacturer. For a child this is maybe enough for simeple games and online activities device, and if it brakes it wont hurt your wallet too much.

However if you want high end performance to support more media content better go for bigger screen and when spending 200USD buy something that will last more then few months.

If you can tell us the money you are ready to spend i can recommend few models.

Today i would recommend for 7-inch:

    Aurora 1 (cheap and stable)
Aurora II (once they fix the screen issues)
    SmartQ S7 (quality and support)

    For 9.7-inch:

Teclast A10 Dual (good quality and good support)
SmartQ T20/T19 (good quality and good support)
