This is my first post, so I'll try to make it count.

I'm an owner of an iPad 1 and a new iPad. I had a Galaxy Nexus phone, so I have experience
with Android 4.x.

I must say that the new iPad is very nice but not a giant leap from an iPad 1.

So, with my tablet portfolio listed, I'll ask a question. Oh, by the way, I love Ice Cream Sandwich!

My question: Am I the only person that sees a distinct market gap in Chinese [domestically designed] tablets and the American market?

I want a decent, cheap, 4.0 tablet to play with. I took to google to find my answers. I found what I was looking for, the N90 design [RK3066 powered] U30GT [largely due to the slight pixel bump].

So, I start to look at retailers and then it hits me... There are none in the US. I'm guessing it has to do with patents, IP or return/repairs [service].

The cheapest I could find a U30GT was around $250/260, many with free shipping. That means 2-4 weeks. Great for the patient, not for me so much. I've ordered from China before and am well versed in it. So, I spring for express shipping and things really start to add up, naturally. This brings me ever closer to an Asus TF300. Not quite there but closer, no less.

Before anyone slams me for the express shipping, continue to read

Service, service and service. Express shipping cost, pfft, doesn't bother me. What does bother me is what happens if the tablet has issues. I know there are a lot of Apple haters here, myself included, but they are more consistent than most. Anyway, I read most of the return/warranty sections of the retailers and they are reasonable except the fact that it will cost you a small fortune [express] to ship it to and back from China. If you use regular post, your tablet will be obsolete by the time you get it back.

I know there are much less expensive tablets to be had but I don't want to ruin the 4.0 experience. The new Rockchip 3066 seems fairly nice. Close to an A5 and Omap 44xx, give or take. It even benches well against a Tegra 3.

This seems to be my dilemma, Asus TF300 16GB ~350ish [if I can find one] that is sold through Amazon or BestBuy [insanely great return policies] or unknown Chinese brand 16GB ~250+shipping [replace/return could literally take weeks/months].

Isn't there an enterprising person/company that would setup shop in the US so returns/repairs could be done with ease and speed?

Is this the answer?

Could Chinese retailers knock the price down for exported orders?

Are these tablets geared mainly for Asian countries?

I would love to hear thoughts on this. I'd also love that little tablet but Asus and Amazon are the two devils I know

Not saying I will go with the TF300, just making a point. It's hard to drop 300 bucks on the U30GT and not say "what the Hell, might as well get the Asus".
